I Am So Grateful For Gratitude
When I worked with people in recovery from addiction, one of the first things we would coach them in is in developing gratitude. The brain cannot focus on anxious thought patterns and gratitude at the same time. So, it can be a really valuable way to break the anxiety loop.
One of the most effective ways to develop your gratitude skills is to keep a Gratitude Journal.
If this is sounding a bit bloody woo-woo, I get it, but stay with me!
Everyone should keep a Gratitude Journal. Here’s why. But first, here’s how to do it.
Forget everything you’ve heard or read about naming five people you are grateful for, or six things in your day that you are grateful for. Too much to concentrate on!
I am suggesting you find just one thing in your day. It can be a person or a thing, but you just need to name one.
That is all. Write it down somewhere. I like to use the NOTES app on my phone, that way I can keep a track of them.
Because here’s the kicker. YOU CANNOT NAME THAT THING AGAIN IN THE SUBSEQUENT DAYS. Easy for the first few days – gets harder after that!
Commit to keeping a Gratitude Journal for just two weeks. I invite you to see how it will transform your outlook on life, how you relate and connect with others, how you perceive your life to be.
How you start to see the positives in your life. How you seek out the upside in your experiences.
It will change your life. Try it. And in the next newsletter I will give you a list of TWENTY things that will have improved for you. You can see how many you can tick off.
Then, you can commit to another two weeks!
