Reasoning
In my last newsletter, I spoke about Composure and how it relates to our self-resilience.
Have you ever felt like you are losing it, that a problem you are tackling just seems to keep moving and you can't focus on it? Then you lose your shit and snap at someone who didn't deserve it? I have. (actually, we all have!)
Recognising our emotional state is vital, as our response to our emotions, our workload, presenting issues, stress levels, etc. will have an effect on those around us. Like ripples in a pond, they can affect our colleagues' moods and reactions. We need to own this.
Our composure will also have a dramatic effect on our ability to reason and stay with issues and challenges we face. Our Reasoning ability is a primary element to solid resilience.
A close cousin of composure, Reasoning refers to our ability to solve unexpected problems and adapt to sudden change creatively. It covers concepts like critical thinking identifying challenges and opportunities and allows us to take action.
REASONING ISN'T ABOUT INTELLIGENCE ALONE. It is about our WILLINGNESS TO TACKLE AND LEARN. We don't have to be the brightest person in the room or team.
Reasoning supports our ability to think clearly when under stress, be relaxed, and focus on the task—not focused on the emotion arising.
So, a question to self-reflect:
Can I solve problems quickly and easily? Or am I stuck in the decision-making process? Is this because of the problem or my response to the problem?
This is not about self-judgement. Take a breath, seek others' input if you need it, stay the course. You got to where you are today in your abilities. Trust yourself.
