The Dismisser as a leader (of sorts!)

In my last article we spoke about the Rescuer as a leadership style in caring for their teams.

This time we will speak about the Dismisser. This is the leader who holds the opinion that ‘you come to work, ready to work". 'Leave your home troubles at home'. 'I am not paying you to sit there moping about your marriage/kids issues'.

You know the type. They are an old-school leader who grew up in a different time, they were managed in this way in their careers. Also from a time when we didn't speak about issues like mental health, and just 'got on with the job'.

Thankfully, we are seeing the demise of this leadership style, and it is important to note that this style of leadership or, more accurately, management is on the wane. If you have a leader with this style or mindset, then they will be leading like this in every aspect of the business.

We now see more clearly that the link between your peoples' performance and the results of the business is clear, strong and undeniable. There is a clear business case for supporting your people to be the best they can be, to perform as best they can, while feeling safe and valued in their work.
